Call for Posters

Now that we have a working website, let's use it. A lot of us have events to promote, and this is a great place to do that. It's also a good place to post a little profile about yourself or your business so we can start to get an idea about everyone's capabilities and areas of expertise, and it's a perfect place to post any sort of interesting design info, places you want to share, or inspiration you come across.

Send an email to admin (at) centersquaredesign -dot- org for a posting invite. Don't let the word "invite" throw you off- posting is open (and encouraged) for everybody involved in Center Square. It's just that the structure of the site requires us to send invitations to individual email addresses. If you ask, you're invited.

Center Square Mission

The one big action item that came out of the June 26 meeting was the need to define a mission for Center Square, both near term and for the future. It was decided the best way to get some initial direction that we can narrow down was to have everybody come up with three things that they would like to get out of the organization (either personally or altruistically) and three ways to make those things a reality. It doesn't have to be an essay, bullet points are fine.

The email list has already grown kind of unwieldy, so we figured the best way to do it was here. You can either create a new post [email admin (at) centersquaredesign -dot- org and I'll send you a posting invite] or just leave a comment. At the next meeting we'll bring all this input together and try to distill it into something we can agree on.

Center Square Meeting- 7/31/2007

The next Center Square meeting will again be the last Tuesday of the month, which is July 31st, starting 6:30pm. We are going to try a change of venue this time, preferably in a local studio or gallery, with a BYOB kind of setup. We'd like to be able to rotate among different spaces from month to month as a way to see what people are doing locally. If you'd like to volunteer your space (for this meeting or some future one), please leave a comment.

Post Labels

It is important to label your posts correctly to have them show up using the links in the sidebar. Our standard labels are: events, people, places, resources, and inspiration. Note these are all lowercase. Any post with one of those labels will be displayed after clicking the corresponding sidebar link. You can also add other labels as you feel appropriate, and at some point when the number of posts warrants it, we can use some kind of label cloud to allow browsing that way.

Creating a "Read More" Jumplink

If you have a long post, it's a good idea to break it up into two parts so it doesn't fill up the whole main page. I'll show you how after the jump.

If you create a new long post, break it into two sections: a brief summary at the beginning, and the rest below. Add the following tags around the non-summary portion:

<span class="fullpost"></span>

Any text before those tags will appear before the Read More link, and any text you place inside the tags will only appear after clicking the link. In any case, the </span> tag should be the last thing in your post.

Resources

Denver (and Colorado in general) has a surprising number of businesses involved in various manufacturing capacities. All of us producing stuff locally have our own favorite sources for various processes, and by sharing them with fellow designers, we can help them keep busy. If you want to spread the word about a favorite resource, remember to label your post with "resources".

Places

One of the big parts of promoting design locally is to highlight places that help support it. If you post about a local business or venue, remember to add the label "places" to your post.

People

If you post about yourself, remember to add the label "people" in the Labels textbox below your post. We'd like to profile all our members so we can all see what everyone is doing.

Inspiration

We all come across things around town and on the web that inspire our work. Want to share it? Add the "inspiration" label to your post.
